Operational Technical Specialist – Sky Sports

The Operational Technical Specialist, is responsible for the operational guidance of workflows in our broadcast software environment, both on cloud and on-premises computing. Working on live productions, you will also be working closely with the Software Operations Manager and Technical Managers to deliver cost-effective software production solutions for our clients.

In addition to this you will be required to assist in configuration, documentation, regularly review delivered products and training the Technical Management Department on new developments.

What you’ll do:  

  • Operate on live productions to stay aligned with evolving production needs.
  • Validate upgrades, patches, and configurations in collaboration with Production Engineering and the Site Reliability Engineer.
  • Conduct platform health checks and report issues.
  • Identify areas for improvement in workflows, and coordinate necessary actions.
  • Work with counterparts in Production Engineering to manage an incident management process and prompt follow-up of incidents.
  • Assist in the training of the operational and support teams, with a focus on the operations and first line.
  • Foster a collaborative approach of working with Clients, Support and Development teams.
  • Work closely with the Software Operations Manager to build strong relationships with vendors and the wider broadcast community.

 

What you’ll bring:

  • In-depth knowledge of broadcast production workflows, technologies, and industry standards.
  • Strong understanding of software-defined broadcast production platforms and media processing technologies like AWS, GV AMPP and Simply Live.
  • Experience in incident management and troubleshooting within a broadcast production environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships.
  • The ability to work independently utilising agile ways of working to manage tasks and meet targets.
  • Understanding of video over IP both compressed and uncompressed.

What you’ll do

  • Work with teams across Sky, Comcast, CTS, syndication partners and 3rd party app developers.
  • Develop a good understanding of the EntOS stack, especially focussing on initiatives involving Apps on the platform.
  • Develops comprehensive project plans that include timelines, milestones, resource requirements and budget estimates.
  • Monitors progress against project plans and take corrective action when needed.
  • Coordinates resources across multiple departments to ensure successful completion of projects on time and within budget.
  • Ensures quality control by conducting regular reviews with stakeholders throughout the life cycle of each project.
  • Identify potential risks associated with each project and develop strategies to mitigate them in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular updates on progress to senior management as well as other stakeholders involved in the projects.
  • Line management of project managers as and when required.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Excellent knowledge of project management, from inception through to project closure.
  • Several years of experience of delivering complex technical solutions, involving multiple geographically dispersed teams.
  • You have experience of line managing project managers and helping them grow in their careers.
  • You’re confident engaging at a senior level (Directors, and C-suite).
  • Your passion for what you’re trying to achieve is contagious
  • You build strong, clear, trusting professional relationships with partners across multinational teams
  • You have an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Have a proven ability to effectively collaborate across multiple partners
  • You are forward-thinking at risk and issue management
  • You have a can-do demeanour and step-up to take a leadership role in difficult situations where clear lines of authority are not always possible
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous and constantly evolving environment
  • Preferably from a Broadcast / OTT background, with a solid understanding of the systems and technologies.

  • Lead key initiatives to optimise O2C and Cash Operations processes, driving efficiency, standardisation, and creating seamless finance experiences across the organisation.
